Airsoft ARs

Airsoft M4s are a brilliant platform for players at all levels of experience. They are known to be reliable, easy to use and comfortable to wield. Should you have a fault with your airsoft M4, the overwhelming popularity of the platform means that help is never too far away - if not from our own in-house tech, but the thousands of YouTube tutorials, Reddit threads and forum posts that have already seen and solved the issue you're facing.

Its prominence has lead to the development of an enormous pool of replacement parts and aftermarket upgrades, now built on more than two decades of knowledge, testing and constant improvement. You can take a beginner M4 rifle, and should you decide you want a bit more oomph, easily upgrade it. You no longer have just a starter rifle - you now have a gun built to match the best on the field.

The most popular platform in airsoft, there is an endless amount of options to choose from, be it AEG, Gas Blowback or HPA.

What Gearbox Does an M4 AEG Airsoft Rifle Use?

Airsoft M4s are the most common style of airsoft rifle, with their AEG variants using what is known as a 'V2' gearbox. The broad popularity of the M4 platform in airsoft makes the V2 effectively the standard airsoft gearbox which most players have some familiarity with. They have a reputation for being highly-reliable, easy to work on and having an enormous pool of replacement parts and aftermarket upgrades.

The V2 gearbox was originally designed by game-changing Japanese airsoft manufacturer Tokyo Marui, who previously designed the now obscure but historically significant 'V1' gearbox, hence the V2 name following in succession. Despite being closely associated with airsoft M4s, the V2 gearbox made its debut in 1994 inside Tokyo Marui's MP5 AEG.

Is an M4 a Good Starting Airsoft Rifle?

If you're a beginner to airsoft, we always recommend an AEG M4: affordable to buy, cheap to run, easy to use and requires limited short-term maintenance.
