The M7 has been selected as the latest service rifle of the US Army, to replace the M4 pattern of rifles. It's mighty posture and high-calibre puts it more in-line as a 'Battle Rifle' than an assault rifle, chambered for the devastating .277 / 6.8x51mm round.

Description

The M7 has been selected as the latest service rifle of the US Army, to replace the M4 pattern of rifles. It's mighty posture and high-calibre puts it more in-line as a 'Battle Rifle' than an assault rifle, chambered for the devastating .277 / 6.8x51mm round.

What happened to the M5 and M6 rifles? Why is the M7 not called the M5?

Originally designated 'XM5', the name was changed to XM7 due to Colt owning the rights to the 'M5' name, with 'M6' also being skipped likely to avoid confusion with the LWRC M6-series. Once the rifle successfully passed the experimental stage, the 'X' was dropped, certifying the M7 as an officially adopted rifle in the US Army's arsenal.
