Description

The W.A.S.P (WASP) piston from Sniper Mechanics is the original weight adjustable piston, now back with an improved design and material tweaks. This version is made for the Silverback TAC-41 (TAC41), and it lets you tune your rifle's shot cycle by changing the piston weight and airbrake to suit your spring and barrel.

Three sleeves change the weight: a light plastic sleeve and medium and heavy steel sleeves. You can run it without an airbrake, with a mid brake or with a full airbrake. Thanks to the guide ring and cup design, even a weighted, unbraked setup at 4.5 joules stays reasonably quiet. Pair it with the matching Sniper Mechanics TAC-41 cylinder head for a complete upgrade.

What's in the box

  • TAC-41 W.A.S.P base piston body
  • Rear sear
  • Front and rear guide rings
  • Plastic sleeve (light), steel sleeve (medium) and steel sleeve (heavy)
  • Non-airbrake fitting, mid brake and full airbrake
  • Injection moulded cup
  • One-piece stainless steel spring guide with O-ring

Good to know

  • Airbrakes only help up to a point. Beyond a certain power, the spring and piston override the brake and slow the air too much, costing power. Where that point is depends on your setup.
  • It works with most 13mm springs, although some lower-power SBA springs are a different spec and may bind.
  • Lubricate the cup before use. Silicone oil works best.
  • Because of the rear guide design, you may need to lower your sear height so the sear can slide over and release. If the piston sticks or won't release, lower the sear.
  • With the stock SBA cylinder head, pre-compress the piston before tightening the head, as the cylinder threads can pinch and damage the cup. Push the piston down and latch the sear with a small tool, or push it through the nozzle with a hex key. This isn't an issue with the Sniper Mechanics head.

Frequently Asked Questions

What springs does the TAC-41 W.A.S.P work with?

It works with most 13mm springs. Some lower-power SBA springs are a different spec and may bind.

Should I use the airbrake?

The airbrakes help up to a certain power. Beyond that, the spring and piston override the brake and slow the air too much, so you lose power. Where that point is depends on your setup, so test with and without.

My piston won't release. What should I do?

Because of the rear guide design, you may need to lower your sear height so the sear can slide over and release the piston.
