Why Upgrade Your Airsoft Tappet Plate
The tappet plate controls the air nozzle motion which feeds the BB into the gun's hop-up chamber. A better tappet plate can give your gun more consistent feeding and improved durability, especially in high rate-of-fire builds.

Types of Tappet Plate
Stock tappet plates are usually made from plastic, which can wear or crack over time, particularly where the sector gear's tappet cam strikes the plate. Upgrade options in this range include:
- Polycarbonate tappet plates from Rocket for version 2 and version 3 gearboxes.
- Reinforced and carbon fibre reinforced plates from FPS Softair, including version 2 options and a version for Tokyo Marui Next Gen Recoil rifles.
- Model-specific plates such as the ZCI version 2 plate, the Prometheus perfect tappet plate and the SHS V7 plate for M14 AEGs.
Signs of a Worn Tappet Plate
Common symptoms include double-feeding, BBs not feeding at all, inconsistent shots or a nozzle that doesn't return fully. Inspect the plate for chips, cracks or a worn spot at the back, and check that the tappet spring is still in good condition. If you're replacing the tappet plate, it's a good time to check the nozzle for wear and make sure the length suits your gun.
Fitting Your New Tappet Plate
The tappet plate sits in the gearbox alongside the sector gear and cut-off lever, so you'll need to open the gearbox to fit one. Take note of how the spring is attached before removing the old plate, and check that the new plate slides smoothly before closing the gearbox.
