What Is the Fire Control Group?

In a gas blowback pistol, the fire control group is the set of parts that releases the hammer to strike the valve and fire the gun. It includes the hammer, sear, trigger bar, lock pins and the springs that reset them after each shot. On full-auto pistols such as the AAP-01 and G18C, it also includes the auto sear and selector.

Because these parts take a hammering every time you shoot, they're among the first to wear. Stock parts are often made from softer metal or cast zinc, so upgrading to stainless steel is one of the best ways to make a pistol more reliable.

Action Army AAP-01 and G-Series

The AAP-01 has one of the biggest upgrade communities of any pistol. Popular choices include the TTI stainless steel hammer set, Cow Cow stainless auto sear and Cow Cow advanced trigger housing. Springs

Upgraded springs give a stronger hammer strike and faster reset, which helps with cold weather and heavier upgrade builds. The Pro-Arms AAP-01 spring set and Cow Cow hammer spring set are great value. MK23 and SSX23 owners can fit the Tridos stronger hammer springs.
