What Do Motors Do in Airsoft?

An airsoft gun motor directly affect the trigger response and fire rate, and will have a big impact on the performance of your airsoft gun.

What is a High Torque Motor in Airsoft?

A high torque motor is one that provides more power to the gearbox, allowing for a higher rate of fire.

What Makes Your Airsoft Gun Shoot Faster?

There are a number of upgrades that can be made to an airsoft gun in order to make it shoot faster, including changing the motor. Other than this, you can replace the spring, gearbox and/or hop-up.

What are the Best Airsoft Motors?

Choosing your Airsoft Motor

High-speed motors spin faster for a higher rate of fire and snappier trigger response, while high-torque motors pull stronger springs more easily, making them ideal for higher-FPS builds and DMRs. Make sure you choose the correct shaft length (long, medium or short) for your gearbox. When choosing your AEG motor, consider what it is you want to improve on your airsoft gun, and pair it with a suitable gear set. We're always on hand if you ever need any advice on what motor to choose! You can get in touch with us via email or phone, or pop into our Fleet airsoft gun shop and range; we'll be more than happy to help!

Motors in Our Range

ZCI offers high-speed, high-torque and standard motors in long and short shaft versions, plus an AK motor cage. Rocket has vented and standard high-torque motors and a high-speed short shaft motor. You will also find the Tokyo Marui Samarium Cobalt Super High Torque motor, the FPS Softair Raijin long shaft motor and a T238 brushless motor with long shaft.

Shaft lengths explained

Long shaft motors fit guns with the motor in the pistol grip, such as M4/AR15 and AK types. Short shaft motors usually suit guns where the motor sits in a cage built around the gearbox, such as many P90 and AUG designs. Medium shaft is less common. If you're unsure, check your gun's manual or contact us.

Brushless motors

Brushless motors avoid wearing brushes and are often chosen for high-performance builds. Check whether a brushless motor needs a compatible controller or MOSFET for your setup.

Fitting Your Motor

After fitting a new motor, adjust the motor height so the pinion meshes smoothly with the bevel gear. Too tight and you'll hear a whine and lose efficiency; too loose and the gears can strip. A small amount of trial and error is normal. Accessories such as Mancraft pistol grip washers can help with fine adjustment.

Pair your motor with a MOSFET or ETU and a suitable battery.
