Airsoft Springs and Spring Guides

The main spring is one of the biggest factors in how hard your airsoft gun shoots, while the spring guide supports it inside the gearbox or cylinder. Swapping either is one of the most common upgrades and repairs, whether you're adjusting power to meet a site limit or replacing a tired spring after a long season.

AEG Springs

AEG springs are usually labelled with a number, such as M90, M100 or M110, or S80 to S140 in the Modify range. As a rule, the higher the number, the stronger the spring and the higher the muzzle velocity, although the exact result depends on your cylinder, barrel, hop-up and air seal. Irregular-pitch springs, like Modify's S series, have coils spaced differently along their length, which is designed to reduce vibration and wear. You'll also find dedicated steel springs from FPS Softair for Tokyo Marui Next Gen Recoil rifles, plus AEG springs from Action Army, Maple Leaf and Unicorn.

Sniper Springs

For bolt-action rifles, Maple Leaf VSR springs come in a range of strengths from M115 to M145, and Rapax offers sniper springs including easy-pull and light-pull options designed to make cocking the bolt less tiring. Rapax Power UP rings let you make small power adjustments without changing the spring. Take a look at our VSR sniper upgrades for more parts.

Spring Guides

A spring guide holds the spring in place at the back of the gearbox. Bearing spring guides let the spring rotate freely as it compresses, which helps reduce torque on the piston and gearbox. This range includes bearing spring guides from Modify, ZCI, Rocket, FPS Softair and MAXX Model for V2, V3 and V6/V7 gearboxes, a Prometheus EG guide for Next Gen Recoil M4/HK416/HK417 rifles and FPS ergal guides for Marui SRE models. Always match the guide to your gearbox version.

Gas Gun and Pistol Springs

Gas blowback replicas use recoil, hammer and nozzle return springs that are rated as a percentage of the stock spring, for example 120%, 140% or 160%. Stronger springs can help the slide or bolt return more positively, especially with a heavier slide or stronger gas. Options include Hi-Capa Hub TORQ and Unicorn springs for Hi-Capas, Pro-Arms springs for the TM Saiga 12K, MP7 and VFC M17, and Tridos and NexxSpeed nozzle springs for the AAP-01.

Choosing the Right Spring

Always check your site's velocity limits before upgrading, and chrono your gun after fitting a new spring. If you're stepping up to a stronger spring in an AEG, it's worth checking that your gears, piston and motor can handle the extra load. Pair your new spring with parts from our pistons, cylinders and heads and tune-up kits and gear sets, or see the Rapax collection for more sniper options.
