It has the curved end on it to prevent blunting or damaging the firing pin. The plastic top on the tool has a wide curved top to help push the pin down comfortably without rubbing or hurting your hands. This is a steel rod and difficult to break, but easy to lose. You can make a small hole in the plastic top and attach a keyring loop to it to avoid losing it in the field.
